The Sunday Schooler

Here at Putnam Congregational, we go that extra mile to provide a loving, child-friendly, interactive, and hands on Christian education that the youth relate to and thrive in.
We are ever vigilent in empowering our youth to be the good stewards God intended them to be through discovery activities that uncover the talents they have been blessed with.
As Christian education teachers,  we are not only concerned with your child's spiritual growth but also their emotional well being.  We recognize that children learn best when they feel secure in their environment, confident of their own ability, and inspired by the presentation of the topic. We make every effort to make learning fun and memorable.
We also realize that Sunday school is but 1 day a week. So, we offer monthly "just for fun" events. Not only do these events offer a safe, Christian minded, nurturing environment, but also an opportunity for children to begin the outreach process by inviting their friends.  This is a way for children who may not regularly come to church to familairize themselves with our facility, meet the teachers in a less structured environment, and see how much fun hanging with God's crew can really be.  Monthly fun nights are always held on Fridays to also encourage and provide a safehaven for teens from the highly stressful, peer pressured life they are often accustomed to.
If you would like a tour of our classrooms or have questions, please contact the C.E. Coordinator, Shannon Labonte or call the church office to schedule an appointment.

Church Store

The church store was born in December 2006 to encourage our SS children to be good stewards of all the gifts God has given them.  The children earn a coin (Bible verse plastic coins) for each of the following:

  • attending Sunday school
  • bringing a monetary offering
  • bringing a food offering to donate to Daily Bread food pantry
  • participating in the worship service upstairs (ex. reading the prayer after the Children's message, doing the old testament reading and the church group reading, being an acolyte)
  • attending a church sponsored event
  • bringing a friend to church or church sponsored event
  • submitting an article, poem, or drawing, for the SS newsletter "The Sunday Schooler"
  • bringing baked goods for fellowship time after service
  • color and submit a coloring sheet located in the front of the sanctuary to be hung up in SS classrooms

The church store is open once a month during SS time,  in the dining hall. At that time, all SS students can shop around the store with the coins they have earned for the month. Children are also able to suggest what types of items they would like to see for purchase in the store. Thus, creating an incentive for them to be better stewards.

Sunday School Media Center

The media center is a direct line for our Sunday School children to educate themselves. Every book, VCR tape, DVD, cassette tape, music CD, puzzle, and game are available for children to check out and take home for as long as they want. We do have a sign out sheet children must sign to check their materials out. It is just another way we empower our youth here in the Christian Ed. program. All materials are spiritually based. Parents are consulted  every step along the way to ensure the materials are age appropriate and acceptable for their own personal preference for their child(ren).
